Biography

Lorette is a Swiss qualified attorney-at-law specialised in international investment law, currently finalising her LL.M. in international dispute settlement (MIDS).

In her prior role as Legal Advisor at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland (SECO), Lorette negotiated bilateral investment treaties (BIT) as well as investment protection provisions as part of multilateral agreements (e.g. Energy Charter Treaty). Further to the above, she advised Swiss investors abroad who faced political issues with foreign governments. She followed developments of multilateral fora such as UNCITRAL, ICSID, and OECD and analysed political initiatives related to foreign investment.

Before joining SECO, Lorette worked at a major Swiss corporate law firm, at the Swiss Red Cross as well as at Hong Kong's leading human rights law firm advising victims of human trafficking and political refugees.

Lorette studied law at the University of Bern (BLaw) and Basel (MLaw) as well as European studies at University of Strassburg, France (Master Droit et Études Européennes). She was admitted to the bar of the canton of Berne and graduated with an advanced degree (Master of Laws, LL.M., with a focus on legal philosophy and constitutional law) from University of Freiburg i. Br., Germany. In 2020, she graduated from the University of Zurich with a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in European Law with a focus on investment law.
