Biography

Spyridon is a Greek dispute resolution lawyer, qualified since July 2015 and a current MIDS candidate as a double scholar. He holds an LL.B from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, an LL.M in private international law and arbitration from the Democritus university of Thrace (distinction-top of his class), and an LL.M in German Economic Law from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he completed his dissertation on “confidentiality in international arbitration from a comparative perspective” under the supervision of the Arbitrator Prof. Dr Klaus Sachs.

Spyridon has also attended further international law and arbitration training courses in various European cities including Athens, (summer school in international investment law), Paris (ICC Academy), Rome (certificate in international commercial and investment arbitration) Munich (Munich center for dispute resolution mediation and sport arbitration workshops) and the Hague ( Leiden university in conjunction with the PCA commercial and investment treaty arbitration courses as well as the Hague winter Academy of international law).

Regarding his professional background, prior to joining the MIDS, he acquired significant arbitration experience first as an intern at the boutique Law firm Wach und Meckes in Munich, where he dealt with domestic and international disputes both in English and German. Subsequently he became an associate at Karatzas and Partners (K&P), one of the leading law firms in Athens and handled international commercial litigations, mediations as well as ad hoc and institutional arbitrations under a variety of laws and rules (including ICC, LCIA, or UNIDROIT) pertaining mainly to international sales and construction disputes. He was also regularly involved in M&A and financing transactions in the context of which he conducted due diligence investigations and advised major international financial institutions and corporations on civil and conflict of laws relating matters.

Spyridon is also a moot court devotee. As an undergraduate student he participated in the first model united nations (MUN) held in Bucharest in 2009. In recent years, he has regularly served as arbitrator in Moot Court competitions including the VIS and the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) moot, while he was a member of the organizing committee and a moderator in terms of the first investment arbitration moot court organized under the auspices of mediate Guru, an organization based in India. Furthermore, Spyridon is extremely active in many ADR oriented organizations. He is a core team member of the Moot Alumni Association (MAA) based in Vienna, a honorary advisory board member of Mediate Guru and a member of DIS 40, Young ICCA, Young ICSID, Young Arbitrators Forum, ASA below 40, ICDR young and international, young ITA and WIPO ADR Young.
