Biography

I am a Counsellor at the Egyptian State Authority in Cairo, Egypt.
I started my career as an intern at Shalakany law office in Cairo, where I did internship before graduation from the law school. After graduation, I did another internship at Shalakany. Then, I worked as associate at Prof. Yahia Al-Jamal law firm for less than a year. In September 2003, I returned to Shalakany as an associate. There I accustomed to do work on international commercial arbitration cases, intellectual property, corporate, and litigation. Then, in 2005 I moved to work for the Egyptian State Lawsuits Authority, where I represent the Arab Republic of Egypt, and its subdivisions, in miscellaneous fields of law. I litigated before civil and administrative courts. Hence, I moved to international disputes department which is specialized in defending Egypt and its authorities before international courts and tribunals. I hardened work, primarily, on commercial arbitration disputes for three years. Later on, I started working on investment arbitrations. I represented Egypt in many disputes before the ICC, ICSID, and PCA.
I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Burgundy, France. My research project focuses on ‘Reform of Egypt Foreign Direct Investment Programme’. From 2014 to 2015, I left the Authority to do my LL.M. programme in Geneva in International Dispute Settlement in collaboration of the University of Geneva with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. Earlier, in 2004, I received postgraduate diploma in Intellectual Property, summa cum laude, from the Cairo University, School of Law. In 2002, I had Bachelor degree in Law from Cairo University, School of Law.
