Biography

Rashid Sultan is a civil lawyer licenced to practice in Pakistan. He has worked in some of the renowned barrister chambers at different levels since 2008. He has ten years relevant professional experience of litigation, arbitration and advisory work in wide range of disputes in construction and infrastructure, energy and natural resources and manufacturing and services industry. He extensively did both trial and appellate work before domestic arbitral tribunals, district courts and the High Court at Islamabad and has also represented clients in judicial review against decisions of the government, state owned corporations and regulatory bodies. He acted as local counsel in two investment arbitration cases on behalf of the respondent as well.

Before coming to Geneva to undertake Masters in International Disputes Settlement, he was working as Legal Advisor in the Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions, Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) of the Government of Pakistan where he rendered legal opinion on several issues arising from the governing law, regulatory instruments and contracts in respect of the upstream petroleum industry. He drafted and vetted the petroleum rights and instruments pertaining to assignments of working interests, guarantees, charges and hypothecation over petroleum production etc. Apart from In-House work, He was also responsible for prosecuting and defending litigation and arbitration cases and to represent the government before the courts and tribunals.
